If you gave me a word-association test and you said "Eagan," I would
immediately say "trees." Eagan has trees. Lots of trees. Green rolling
hills with lots of trees. Perhaps you would assume that a community
that is able to protect the native beauty of the area would also have a
wonderful park system. In this case, you are absolutely right. Eagan
ranks nationally as one of the best places to live. Undoubtedly, the
local parks factor into this distinction. One of the most unique
features of this system is the Holtz Farm, an 80 acre parcel that once
produced livestock, crops, fruits, and vegetables. This beautiful farm
now provides visitors with an historical and cultural glimpse into
rural life from the Great Depression to World War II. In addition,
Eagan also maintains 53 other parks covering over 1370 acres.
The next word that would come to mind is "recreation." Eagan has 32
tennis courts, 15 hockey rinks, 41 ball fields, the Trapp Farm Park
tubing hill, BMX style bike parks, and other numerous and sundry
outdoor recreational opportunities for every age and interest. If you
live in Eagan, you have no excuse for being a "couch potato.
Surprsingly, this beautiful city is the eighth largest city in the
state, and is a major economic powerhouse for the entire Twin Cities.
Many major employers are headquartered here, including Thomson, Blue
Cross BlueShield, Northwest Airlines, Lockheed Martin, Midwest Coca
Cola Bottling, and a huge US Postal Service facility, to name a few.
The local economy benefits from the convenient location; Eagan is just
a stone's throw from the Mall of America, the Minneapolis St. Paul
Airport, is equidistant to both downtown areas of Minneapolis and St.
Paul. Eagan's commercial tax base includes light industry and a strong

affordable average cost of about $137 per square foot. There are a
handful of pre WWII homes for sale at any given time, but Eagan did not
experience a construction boom until the 1960's. The average year-built

The luxury home market sometimes includes property with views of
Patrick Eagan Park, and design by renowned architects like Mulfinger
The Eagan townhome market is large and varied, but townhome
developments are clustered primarily along Cedar Avenue (Highway 77)
and Highway 13, creating affordable options for commuters. Eagan town
homes are especially favored by airline and airport employees, due to
the easy access to MSP Airport.
